Printmaking - Intermediate

You will cover many printmaking techniques, which reflect exciting contemporary printmaking developments and combination of techniques.

Course Content

Course aims:

• You will design and complete a term-long project, resulting in finished prints, based on your own ongoing print practice and in conjunction with regular tutorials.
• You will be able to improve understanding, and professionalise your use of, one or more printing techniques of own choice.
• You will gain an understanding of professional studio use and practice, including working with relief presses and paper handling.
• You will learn digital skills relevant to preparing images for print with Photoshop and other programmes.

On this course, you will be encouraged to work at your own pace on projects that will be designed to cover your individual interests and experience. The classes are relaxed and friendly and include regular discussions on printmakers, printmaking history, tools/equipment and terminology. As a mixed group from intermediate to more experienced level, students share their experience and ideas.

You will learn through:

Practical hands on experience

Tutor demonstrations, individual and group tuition

Exchanging ideas and experience

Investigating the work of artists and printmakers

Due to legal Health & Safety requirements we have suspended our etching processes until we have safe alternatives in place.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

You should have a working knowledge and experience of at least one form of printmaking, although refresher sessions are available for a range of techniques

First Class Requirements

Paper and printing materials such as lino and etching plates can be purchased on the premises. The course fees include inks.

Useful items to bring to classes:

Pen, pencil, ruler, craft knife or scalpel and any sketchbooks you want to work from, photographs or ideas about images you like. Cotton rags.

Essentials:

Apron or something to cover clothes with, and enclosed shoes.

This specialist course has been identified to run with fewer numbers due to either the student demand for the course and subject area or the need for increased one to one tuition. This course will be able to run with only 6 learners and will have a maximum of 10 in the class.
